Transit Visa

Documents Required

All documents must be dated within 30 days of application submission. Original documents must be presented at the appointment, while photocopies must be submitted unless otherwise specified.

Visa Application Documents

• Visa application form (original, completed and signed)
• Passport
  • Signed and valid for at least 90 days beyond return from the Schengen Area
  • Issued within the last 10 years
  • At least 2 blank pages for visa stamping
  • Include photocopies of previous Schengen visas from the past 3 years
• Photograph
  • One colour photo, meeting all specifications
• UK Residency
  • Provide a UK eVisa printout from UKVI with a valid share code

Proof of Occupation

• Employed:
  • Recent signed employer letter (dated within 30 days)
  • Last 3 months’ payslips
• Student:
  • Confirmation letter from institution (dated within 30 days)
• Self-Employed:
  • Signed letter confirming self-employment (dated within 30 days), obtained from:
    • Accountant / Solicitor / Bank Manager, or
    • Certificate of Incorporation from Companies House
• Unemployed/Retired:
  • If receiving benefits: recent letter from Jobcentre/Pension Service
  • If not: a cover letter explaining financial situation
• Housewife/Househusband (if sponsored by spouse/partner):
  • Marriage certificate (original + copy, translated if not in English, Latvian, or Russian)
  • Sponsor’s passport (original + copy)
  • Sponsor’s occupation proof and proof of finance
  • Sponsor’s signed cover letter confirming sponsorship

Proof of Finance

• Last 3 months’ UK bank statements showing:
  • Applicant’s name and address
  • An end balance dated within 30 days of visa submission
  • Minimum of £13.00/day of stay, plus travel and accommodation expenses
• Alternatively, travellers’ cheques covering the same amount

Proof of Travel

• Confirmed onward and return flight tickets with applicant’s name and travel dates
• If travelling by car:
  • Vehicle documents (registration, insurance, driving licence)
  • Return travel ticket (ferry/Eurotunnel)
  • If the applicant is not the driver, include driver’s cover letter confirming joint travel

Proof of Accommodation

• Confirmed accommodation reservation mentioning:
  • Applicant’s name
  • Travel dates
  • Accommodation address
• If name is not listed, include a joint travel letter and ID proof of the person on the booking
• If booked as a group, include the list of group members or ensure names appear on travel ticket

Travel Insurance

• Must clearly mention applicant’s name
• Valid for the entire Schengen Area and trip duration
• Must cover €30,000 for medical emergencies and repatriation
• For single entry: must also include 15-day grace period
• For multiple entry: must cover the first trip in full

Additional Requirement (for certain nationalities)

• Nationals from countries listed under Latvia’s additional examination regulation must submit a completed Questionnaire alongside the visa application.
• This includes applicants from: Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Iran, and other designated countries.

Photo Specifications

Applicants must provide one recent colour photograph, taken within the last 6 months, meeting the following requirements:

Background

• Light-coloured background (white or off-white)
• Facial features must be clearly distinguishable with good contrast

Quality & Composition

• High-resolution and in clear focus
• Full face visible, with a neutral expression (no smiling)
• No sunglasses, hats, or head coverings
  • Exceptions made only for religious or cultural reasons

Format

• Printed on standard photographic paper (camera print only)
• Photograph must be paper clipped to the visa application form (do not glue or staple)

Important

• If the photograph does not meet the above standards, the application will be considered incomplete
• Applicants may be required to take new photos at the visa application centre’s photo booth
